of June there has been an exhibition of photographs entitled, "Settlement" in
the Mayfair-based Blains Fine Art Gallery. Today is the last day to see the
exhibition, made up of pictures from England (Cornwall, Derbyshire, Isle of Man
and Kent), Ireland (Cork, Donegal and Valentia Island), Scotland (Isle of Bute,
Old Stirlingshire, Shetland Islands, Western Isles, etc.) and Wales (Gwynedd).
Prices for the photographic masterpieces are mostly in the £4,500 price bracket,
with one at £5,000 and a few at £11,000 (all excluding VAT). According to the
press release we have, the photographer - Thomas Joshua Cooper - has, 'For over
thirty years... travelled the world making pictures with a camera that is over
100 years old.'
And, as if this is not fascinating
enough, the photographic artist, a Native American in his fifties, is quoted as
saying, 'My photographs are meditations; it is as simple as that... they are
more the products of a revelation than that of actual direct documentation of
place.' So go along and see this collection of meditations for yourself.
