ROCKET ART GALLERY HOSTS GROUP EXHIBITION, CELEBRATING MINIMALISM, ON EXCHANGE WITH GALERIE MARKUS RICHTER IN BERLIN, GERMANY

Jonathan Stephenson / Rocket presents the "Berlin / London / Minimal" exhibition, and today is your last chance to see it before the 11 exhibits move to Germany, to be exhibited in a Berlin gallery from late October until the end of November. The half-dozen artists, whose works feature in this minimalist exhibition of mixed media, are: Colin Ardley, Tim Ayres, Fritz Balthaus, Stefan Eberstadt, Gerold Miller and Dirk Rathke. According to the press release we received, each artist has a distinctive style.... `Colin Ardley's works involve the intricate assembly of plain and painted lengths of wood, and engage with the constructivist tradition of wall sculpture that both articulates and re-configures the space around it. Tim Ayres paints monochrome text works which punctuate the space between surface, image and language. Fritz Balthaus takes materials used in the commercial art world - bubblewrap, frames, packing tape - and transforms them into minimalist works.

Stefan Eberstadt employs common building materials like chipboard, glass and emulsion paint to make sculptures that cross over the boundaries of art/architecture/design and simultaneously serve a functional purpose. Gerold Miller's "frame-like" objects are presented on the wall like pictures but conceptually they inhibit the area between "hard-edge" paintings and minimalist sculptures. Dirk Rathke incorporates elements of painting, sculpture and drawing to explore architectural and spatial concerns.' Prices for the works, excluding those marked POA, range from £650 to £6,000 excluding VAT. The British Council and the Goethe Institute are both supporting the event. Telephone 020 7434 3043 for more information, if required. Location: Rocket, 13 Old Burlington Street, London, W1. Tube station: Piccadilly Circus (Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines).
