October 16 2002, Wednesday, concert: 7pm to 8.30pm (exhibition: weekdays 10am-6pm, Saturday 11am-4pm)RUSSIAN MUSICIAN, ALEXI CHISWICK USES VIBRAPHONE TO PLAY CLASSICAL AND JAZZ MUSIC, BY GERMAN AND U.S. COMPOSERS, IN GALLERY PERFORMANCE BILLED AS "MUSIC AMONGST THE PAINTINGS" - PAINTINGS CREATED BY TWO ARTISTS: MOSCOW-BORN, BONDARENKO AND KENT-BORN, JAMESA unique chance to hear some classical and jazz music in a central London art gallery! The event, being organised by Marvel Art Ltd is entitled, "Music amongst the paintings: Classics meet Jazz... From Bach to Gershwin." The musician is Alexei Chiswick and he is to play a selection of classical and jazz sounds by composers as diverse as Bach and Gershwin. Chiswick, who is a very experienced musician in his early thirties, is based at St Petersburg's Philharmonic Hall and, we hear, is very popular in Russia. Should be a memorable evening, especially when the audience is to be surrounded by wonderful art, depicting scenes of the United Kingdom and Russia. Visitors to the exhibition, which continues until this coming Saturday, will notice that the English artist, John James has painted the Russian scenes while the Russian artist, Youry Bondarenko has painted scenes of England. London features prominently, with oil paintings with titles such as, "Misty Day in Hyde Park", "Autumn Shadows. Hyde Park", "Empty House. Kensington Gardens" and "Sunny Day in Kensington Gardens."
Russia features with paintings with titles such as, "Courtyard from Dostoevsky", "Plosahd Iskusstv. After Rain", "Breaking Ice. Griboedov Canal" and "Church of St. Vladimir." English counties - in addition to paintings of Northern Ireland and Wales - can also be seen when you visit. Included are scenes of Cornwall, Norfolk, Yorkshire, etc. In total, there are some 63 oil paintings (painted on either canvas, board or paper) to view at the exhibition. Prices range from £450 to £3,900. Admission to the concert: £10, to include refreshments. The exhibition itself is free to view and is open until this coming Saturday.
