May 10 2003, Saturday, 11am-4pmBUCKHURST HILL (ESSEX) ARTIST, DEREK HARE, BRINGS TASTES OF NORFOLK, BAHAMIAN AND PORTUGUESE COASTAL SEA AIR TO VISITORS OF "OCEAN VISTAS" EXHIBITION AT ARNDEAN GALLERYThe evening of Thursday last saw us visiting several art galleries in London's west end. One exhibition, which took our interest, with numerous oil paintings of varied shorelines and seascapes; some with colourful sunsets on two gallery floors was Derek Hare's, "Ocean Vistas." In part of his statement - printed in a coloured catalogue, which features 17 of his works (our favourite is the 42" x 36" "Algarve Sunset"), the artist outlines his years of experience, 'I have painted coastal scenes for nearly forty years, most of that time drawing subjects from the North Sea, as well as the Channel, Baltic and Mediterranean. The last fifteen years have seen a marked change of direction, with material gathered from Portugal and the Bahamas influencing everything from the range of colours to the sometimes more abstract treatment of the subject.'
As today is the last day of the six-day event,
we suggest you go along and appreciate works similar to what people have been appreciating
in Sweden (since 1977), Germany (since 1982) and USA (since 1988) - to name just several
other countries where the artist has exhibited. According to the catalogue, Derek had his
first exhibition in South Shields in 1967. And today - over 35 years later - you have a
chance to go along and discover more, about this interesting collection of coastal, ocean
and sea views. Location: Arndean Gallery, 23 Cork Street, London, W1. Tube station: Green
Park (Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria lines).
