August 25 2003, Monday, 3pm-4.30pm & 7pm-10.20pmLONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (CONDUCTED BY SIR COLIN DAVIS) PLUS FRENCH SINGING IN BOTH PARTS OF BERLIOZ'S FEAST OF GREEK GHOSTS & CLASSICAL MUSIC: "THE TROJANS", PERFORMED AT KENSINGTON'S ROYAL ALBERT HALLDeciding which part of Berlioz's "The Trojans" to go to, will not keep many of us up all night - possibly because many of us will be returning to London after a bank-holiday weekend, out of the city. The recommendation, though, would be to attend both parts: "The Capture of Troy" followed by "The Trojans at Carthage." Without giving too much away... in the first part, we see three of the characters - Cassandra (Petra Lang), Corebus (William Dazeley) & Priam (Clive Bayley) - before they change into their respective ghosts, for the second part. Whilst Hector (Jonathan Lemalu) seems to be a ghost throughout what, the BBC Proms' "Proms Odyssey" brochure is billing Berlioz's score as, 'one of the most highly charged and dramatic ever written.'
So, go along and enjoy the fully charged spectacle! Tickets, for each of the two concerts, range in price from £14.50 (Rear Circle) to £38 (Centre Stalls), though there are usually 1,500 atmospheric "Promming" places for a mere £4. Telephone 020 7589 8212 (9am-9pm) to reserve your ticket or for more information, if required. Location: Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Gore, London, SW7. Tube station: South Kensington (Circle, District & Piccadilly lines).
