September 27 2003, Saturday, 11am-8pm (Sunday, 11am-7pm)GUATEMALAN AMBASSADOR INAUGURATES "LEGACIES OF LATIN AMERICA" TWO-DAY CONFERENCE, WHICH WILL HOST TALKS ABOUT BOLIVIA, COLOMBIA, MEXICO, PERU, ETC., PLUS SEVERAL CONCERTS - TO INCLUDE BRAZILIAN & CUBAN MUSIC - AS WELL AS DANCE FROM ARGENTINA & BRAZILToday is the first day of the two-day conference, "Legacies of Latin America." According to the promotional brochure we read, participants are being invited to, 'Experience a journey into the breathtaking ancient civilisations of Latin America and their legacies today.' The event is being held in aid of the Xinka & Pipil Indigeneous Communities in Guatemala. Today's schedule, after Alberto Sandoval, the Guatemalan Ambassador, opens the event is for a talk about the Aztecs in Mexico (11.45pm-12.30pm); press conference (1pm-1.30pm); Brazilian concert (1.30pm-2.30pm); two more talks at 3pm and 3.45pm followed by "Argentinean Dance: Tango - Biana and partners" (5pm-6pm), which sounds interesting.
The day ends with a group from the Department of Performing Arts at Brunel University putting on a performance, entitled "Experience El Dorado Legend" (7pm-8pm).
