September 10 2003, Wednesday, 6pm for 6.30pm-7.30pm (exhibition continues until September 13 2003)KERIM RISSIN - ARTIST FROM BAGHDAD, IRAQ - GIVES TALK (INTERPRETED INTO ENGLISH) AT DELUXE GALLERY, HOXTON SQUARE BASED ART VENUE"Before.After.Now: Visions of Iraq" is the name of a one-week exhibition of contemporary art from Iraq and the UK, which we visited recently. Some sixteen artists have been brought together to exhibit a range of art, produced using a variety of mediums - e.g. acrylic, charcoal, China ink, collage, mixed media, video, etc. We are also grateful for hteL subscriber, Gordon Beal's e-mail message - recently sent through the Kensington International Society (KIS) e-mail group, which mentions the same exhibition. It was this e-mail message (yes, you can e-mail us at... [click on "Contact", above] if you know of any other London events!) that motivated us along to find out more about the exhibition - and meet two of the organisers - as hundreds of people were milling around, outside, waiting to view Damien Hurst's opening at White Cube.
Here is an extract of what he says, 'Meet
Gordon on Wednesday 10 September, between 6 and 6.15pm, at Old Street tube station
(Northern Line, Zone 1) to go to the Deluxe Gallery (first floor), 2-4 Hoxton Square, N1,
for a talk (from 6.30 to 7.30pm) by Kerim Rissin, who has lived and worked in Baghdad
since he was born there in 1960...' Sounds interesting! So, go along, get yourself a seat
on the first floor for the talk and discover/see what is on offer at this exhibition,
which is being presented in association with "Visiting Arts." Admission free.
