August 1 2004, Sunday, 4pmEIGHTIES LONDON - PLUS SONGS, OF THAT DECADE - FEATURE IN BENNETT, PLEWS & READ’S, "WHITE WEDDING" FRINGE WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE AT, "UPSTAIRS AT THE GATEHOUSE" (THEATRE ABOVE GATEHOUSE PUB) BEFORE NATIONWIDE TOURWriter, Mike Bennet, choreographer, Racky Plews and DJ and television presenter, Mike Read, have come together – with a team of others, including musical director, Steve Etherington – to produce, "White Wedding," a story about entrepreneurs in Eighties London clubs. And, as the press release states and as would be expected of a theatrical and musical workshop depicting that era, ‘the show is set against a backdrop of Eighties songs, including "Temptation", "Gold", "Tainted Love", "Like a Virgin" and that old classic "The Birdie Song."’ If this is your cup of tea – as it is ours (having arrived in London, back then), we shall probably see you there - this Sunday afternoon, in Highgate Village. We did try to get tickets for one of the previous three nights, but they were all sold out.
Then we heard there were only about a dozen tickets left for Sunday’s matinee! On hearing this, we quickly phoned Ovation, the owners of the theatre, and managed to get booked in for what the press release bills as, ‘…a unique opportunity to see the production in development before it embarks on a national tour ending in London’s West End.’ So, try, for one of those remaining tickets…
